Jerry Walker Resume
Jerry first became interested in Thoroughbred racing in the early 1990’s while serving as Legislative Committee Chair of the Indiana Horse Council.  The Committee was working to legalize pari-mutuel horseracing in Indiana and Jerry thought it would be great entertainment, and maybe even profitable, to own a racehorse – he had raised Quarter Horse and Appaloosa show horses for the previous 20 years.  He purchased and bred a Thoroughbred mare that produced his first stakes winner, BLUE TRACE, winning the colt division of the Indiana Thoroughbred Owners and Breeders Association (ITOBA) Stallion Stakes at Hoosier Park. He repeated the ITOBA Stallion Stakes win the following year by finishing first in the filly division with another home-bred, I'M A NOBLE GIRL, and also placed in that division with BLUE MISTY.  The following year, he placed in the Stallion Stakes filly division with SISTER BLUES, and the next year, again won the colt division with BOILERPLATE.  A Brandywine-bred filly, DROP OF RAIN, won the first running of the Shelby County Stakes at Indiana Downs.

Following his retirement from Eli Lilly and Company in 1994, Jerry devoted full time to Brandywine Stables, LLC, centering activities primarily on the Indiana Thoroughbred program. The farm stood the two stallions, DAUFUSKIE PIRATE and COLONEL BRADLEY.  In 2005, he sold the farm in Greenfield, Indiana and moved the operation to South Carolina.  Brandywine continues to develop racing and breeding partnerships focusing primarily on the state-bred programs in Indiana and Florida.

During more than 40 years in the horse business, Jerry has served in many leadership positions in various equine-related organizations including Chairman, Indiana Horse Racing and Breeding Coalition; President, Indiana Thoroughbred Owners & Breeders Association; President, Indiana Horse Council; President, Indiana Horse Council Foundation; and Chair, State Horse Council Advisory Committee of the American Horse Council.

Jerry is the recipient of several awards including the American Horse Council Van Ness Award, Honorary Indiana Commissioner of Agriculture, and the Thoroughbred Owners & Breeders Association Indiana Breeder of the Year.

He has been a consultant with the Greatest Game since the organization was initially established and is currently an advisor with the redesigned Racing Game, a partnership between the Thoroughbred Owners and Breeders Association (TOBA), Keeneland, and Blood-Horse Publications that provides information and assistance to new and prospective Thoroughbred owners.

Jerry received a BA degree from the University of Texas in 1965 and a PhD degree from Clemson University in 1969.  He joined Eli Lilly and Company in 1969 and held a number of positions, both domestic and international, in research and research management. He retired from Lilly in 1994 as Director of Toxicology.
